FAQ
Renting near MSU, answered
Everything students and parents ask us about our East Lansing houses. Don't see your question? Text us at (248) 697-1068.
Do you have any houses available for the 2027/28 school year?
Yes, one. 646 N Hagadorn is our last house open for 2027/28. 1542 Ann Street, 1522 Burcham Dr, and 1524 Burcham Dr are already leased for next year, but you can join the waitlist for 2028/29 on any of their pages.
Can I move in for spring semester 2027?
Yes. The current residents at 646 N Hagadorn move out in December, so you can move in this January, before MSU spring classes start on January 19, 2027. You can take it for the spring semester or lock it in through 2027/28. More on that in our spring 2027 housing guide.
How much is rent?
Rent depends on the house and the lease length, so we quote it directly. Text us at (248) 697-1068 or fill out the form and we will send current pricing, usually the same day.
How close are the houses to Michigan State?
All four Hardy houses are in East Lansing's 48823, minutes from MSU's campus and downtown East Lansing. 646 N Hagadorn and 1542 Ann Street are walking distance to downtown and class, and the Burcham Dr houses are a short trip to both.
Are the houses furnished?
No, our houses come unfurnished so you can set them up your way. Every house has a full kitchen and an in unit washer and dryer.
Is there parking?
Yes. Every Hardy house has free parking, and both Burcham Dr houses come with private garage parking.
Do you allow pets?
We are pet friendly, case by case. Tell us about your pet when you reach out and we will let you know.
Who can rent a Hardy house?
Our houses are built for MSU students, but anyone can apply: undergrads, grad students, transfer students, and young professionals. Hardy Housing Estates is an equal housing opportunity provider.
How do I tour a house or apply?
Text us at (248) 697-1068 (fastest), call, or fill out the availability form on any page. We will set up a tour and walk you through the application.
When should I sign a lease for next school year near MSU?
Earlier than you think. Houses near campus for the next school year usually lease up in the fall, about a year ahead. Our own houses for 2027/28 were mostly gone by early October 2026. Our MSU off campus housing guide breaks down the timeline.
Can I live off campus as a freshman or sophomore at MSU?
Usually not. MSU has a two year live on requirement, so most students live on campus for their first four semesters unless they qualify for an exception, and transfer students are currently exempt. See the details in our MSU off campus housing guide and always confirm with MSU Live On.
Who handles maintenance?
We do. Something breaks, you text us, and it gets fixed fast. No portals and no runaround, you talk to the people who own the house.
